Sea Dogs

Today we finally got to a Portland Sea Dogs game. For years, we've been saying, "hey, we should go see them," but never going. We said the same for Portland's previous farm team, the Maine Guides, but never went to see them either. Today a few of us got organized enough and actually made the trip. The next few photos show some of the highlights of our afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Stadium checklist

Don't forget! Wouldn't it be nice if everybody provided a checklist like this? Don't forget your glasses. Don't forget your homework. Don't forget your coupons. Don't forget your hat. Don't forget your head. Yeah, these Sea Dogs really know how to take care of their fans.

Sea Dogs vs Navigators

What's the call, ump? Honestly, I don't remember. He was probably safe, because it was the Navigators who won the game. The Norwich 'Gators are one of the Giants' farm teams and their pitcher dominated the action this afternoon. The main draw for us was just being there at the game in Portland, watching the Sea Dogs, and eating our "Sea Dog Biscuits."

Sea Dogs

The imposing mascot of the mighty Portland Sea Dogs, the AA team of the Boston Red Sox. I think he's all bark and no bite. At least that was the case today. The Dogs are, however, in first place in the Northern Division of the Eastern League, so I'm sure "Slugger" strikes fear in the opponents when the Sea Dogs go on the road.
Update, the Sea Dogs are now in the Eastern League championship series, facing the Akron Aeros (Indians AA team) for the title after having disposed of the Trenton Thunder (Yankees AA team) in the Northern Division playoffs! |

Lobster lob

The lobster lob is one of the many interesting between-inning activities at the Portland Sea Dogs games. Somebody tosses several lobsters at the contestants, who run around with a lobster trap, trying to catch the lobsters before they hit the ground.

Enjoying the game from the grandstand along the third base line. Wishing the Dogs would score a few more runs.

Home of the Portland Sea Dogs.
AA farm team of the Red Sox. See? They even have a left field wall. I love a good teaching tool. |
