Robert Irwin's windows. Another nice photo, which doesn't include my son, is here. It's a window with a square cut out of it. This square is on a corner, so it's actually two half-squares. Very cool.

Robert Irwin's windows. Another nice photo, which doesn't include my son, is here. One big square missing from the window in the middle, another square missing from the corner window (not as visible, with the reddish and beige background colors. This was probably my favorite exhibit in the museum.

The big exhibit now at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is Byron Kim, who expresses himself with simple colors. For example, his signature piece, Synecdoche, is wall full of panels that looks like a paint selection guide at home depot. Instead, each panel's color represents a friend or family member's skin color (in alphabetical order!).
Another one has a series of blue, white, and gray panels representing the color and texture of the sky on various days of his recent life. He scribbled a little diary-type note on each of them describing the weather and what was going on in his life the day of each painting. The exhibit opened at the end of May, and he has added a new panel to this exhibit once a week since then. Probably a total of 100 panels or more. Scott tests out a skin color match on Synecdoche. |

Cheese Shop

The Cheese Shop in the La Jolla Shores area has been one of my favorite places to eat in San Diego for the past 20 years. Be prepared to receive a huge sandwich that's almost enough to feed two, and don't forget to pick up one of their classic oatmeal cookies. Take a look at their unique selection of sodas and other foods while you're waiting for your order. No, I don't work there. I just love the place and don't get there often enough. Maybe having this photo here in the Buzznet archives will remind me.
